Kolo Toure urges Manchester City players to up their game ahead of Manchester United clash; refutes talk of division in the team
Kolo Toure, the twenty-nine-year-old Ivorian defender from Manchester City, has urged his teammates to give it their best in the upcoming matches of the football club.
The current season of the Premier League, despite opening well for the Citizens, has not remained lucky for the side. The recent defeats in their Premier League encounters have created a lot of stress and frustration amongst the fans as well as in the management of the club. In order to improve the performance and winning rate of the team, veteran defender and captain of the side in the absence of injured Carlos Tevez, Toure has urged his teammates to fight hard in the upcoming matches to improve the team’s position on the points table (Manchester City are currently ranked 4th; they are below leaders Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.)
Manchester City suffered merciless defeats in the matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-2) and Arsenal (0-3). It is to be noted that Manchester City has won only five matches out of the ten it has played. Moreover, the newly added players in the squad have still not been able to impress the fans with their performance.
In a recent interview, Kolo Toure expressed his views and worries about the matter and told the media that the recent defeats of the team are very disappointing and frustrating for the players and fans of the Manchester City football team, but he is very hopeful that the players will fight hard in the upcoming matches to claim victories.
Manchester City is considered as one of England’s richest and most well-reputed football clubs. Toure is of the view that the situation of the points table can change very quickly if the team performs well in the upcoming matches.
"We now need to show we are good players by bouncing back. The derby is coming and it's going to be massive, so we need to start to resolve things now,” said Kolo, speaking of the upcoming derby clash with Manchester United.
Talking of the (rumoured) strained relations between players and their displeasure with the newly introduced methods of manager Roberto Mancini, he said: "But talk of division is not true at all. We are a team. In any team there are problems, but we must resolve them in the dressing-room and in the training camp. After the Wolves game, the manager had his word, and the players had our words as well, so we know what we need to do in the future.
"There are a lot of personalities in the team. When there is an issue, everyone has his say, and that is really important if you want to be a big club.
"We have been really shocked at the criticism. It's difficult - we know we are a big team now and everyone expects us to be at the top.
"When you are one of the richest clubs in the world you need to deliver on the pitch. The criticism is good because it will make us work harder and prove that we deserve to be at this club," said Toure, on the matter.
Kolo Toure added that there are problems in every team, but this is the time to look over and resolve those problems in order to improve their performance and winning ratio.
