Kolohe Andino dominates at the Nike Lowers Pro Prime Event - Surfing News
Day three of Nike Lowers Pro Prime Event got off to a flying start, with the thrilling performance of Kolohe Andino, at the San Onofre State Beach, on Thursday, May 5.
Andino was nervous and shaky at the start of the meet, but he really improved his score during the middle stages of the surfing event. He said that the event was one of the hardest races which he has contested in, during his career in the sport.
He grabbed 9.40 points, while Dusty Payne captured 8.10 points in the following meet. The match was a high-scoring encounter between the two archrivals. Both surfers were looking good and tried their level best, to oust each other in the event.
Andino, said, “I've been trying to mix those up in my free surfing, and get them down in case I have to bust them in my heat. For me, it's the hardest maneuver to do.”
On the other hand, Tanner Gudauskas of San Clemente put up a spirited show to finish with a total score of 8.5. He had to face the most challenging and horrific waves while surfing. Despite the tough weather conditions, Gudauskas did well to post a challenging
total. It was his first surfing contest after recovering from his ankle injury, in February.
After the race, Gudauskas said that he was immensely pleased and delighted by his overall performance in the surfing championship. He feels his wave selections were quite good, as he did not expect to surf that well.
Gabriel Medina was devastating with his surfing, as he pulled a high score of 9.50 in the meet. The Brazilian is one of the most popular and acrobatic surfers in the world.
Medina, added, “I was on the outside, the wave just came for me. It was like, 'oh my God,' I need to surf this wave because I need the score. I tried to do a couple turns, I did a lay back in the first one, the second one I did a good turn. I don't know,
I got a 9.5 and I'm stoked.”
Nate Yeomans of San Clemente was not able to perform well with a disappointing run, whereas, Tim Reyes of Huntington Beach put on a good fight in the later stages of the event.
Reyes was content with his show in the match and believes that it was one of his best performances in competitive surfing events, this year. He added that his board is feeling really good and his equipment feel is also great. The American professional surfer
was optimistic to surf well in the upcoming events.
