I never heard of your Komala's but I used to work in the restaurant industry and I can tell you even the cleanest restaurants have insect and rat problems. Wherever the smell of food is, there will be rats and bugs. It's inevitable.

The safest restaurant will have an exterminator at least once a month to kill anything hiding where it shouldn't be and discourage any "new residents."

The restaurants where I worked were very clean but the dry goods storage areas were constantly battling rats wanting to come inside. The lower shelves in the storage area were never used for food product. The busboys and food servers were constantly cleaning and mopping and vacuuming the entire restaurant but you still can't convince a rat to stay away when he smells food inside a building. One thing that helps is to have the trash dumpster located clear across to the other side of the parking lot and not immediately behind (and up against) the restaurant building.

There simply is no such thing as a restaurant with no pest problem. It's a constant problem. For every restaurant.
