Manchester City’s captain and Belgian international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Kompany-c36184 has gone on to admit that City’s chances of progressing in this year’s competition seem very plausible.
Last year, City went into the Champions League, with a lot riding on their shoulders. However, the team failed to perform under pressure and was knocked out of the group stages of the contest.
They were then demoted to the Europa League, but they failed to win that tournament as well.
With the team having won the Premier League title last season, they will be looking to improve on their European performances and try and push to being hailed as one of the best teams in the world.
This season, the Manchester based club got pooled in the group of death, and they will be going up against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax, all of those teams won their respective leagues last season, making this one of the best groups ever to be
drawn in the competition’s history.
Despite it looking like City face a massive uphill task to make it to the next round of the contest, Kompany is rather confident that his side have what it takes to go far this season.
The defender thinks the team has started to gel together and that they are way stronger now, than they were last season.
As a result, he thinks the team will be turning a lot of heads this season, with the performances that they display during their games.
"We had 10 points last season and we should have come through [the group stages]," Kompany said in a recent interview.”
"But we have a team that is probably stronger and for us the Champions League is massive, also the Premier League - but we want to do better."
Manchester City are going to be facing Real Madrid in their opening fixture in the Champions League this season. Given the fact that the match is going to be played at the Bernabeu, the team is going to have to give it their all, as they hope to kick things
off with a bang.
It is now a wait to see just how City perform on the European stage this season.
