I want to get my small pomeranian a kong toy to keep her busy when I have to take her on a two hour flight next week. Can someone explain how they get the treats out though? It seems kind of hard.

  1. The whole point is that it's hard. There are different kinds of Kong dog toys. Most of them are great because their made out of rubber so the dogs can't tear them apart in a second. You can put dog biscuits inside some of them which will be fun for them. Getting the food out is like a brain problem or a challenge for them. They have to use their brains to get out the food. It's good for them. You can also put peanut butter inside the Kong toy instead of dog biscuits. The same can be done with real bones which you can get at animal stores. The dog will try to get the bone marrow out of the bone. Don't worry about the teeth, dog's teeth are stronger than those bones so they won't chip a tooth or something like that. Besides, the dog knows if the bone is to hard. Trust me, eventually they will get the food inside.

  2. thats what keeps the dog busy they use their paws and tongue.

  3. there are many different size and strengths of the kong. mine have the black or red extra large / extra hard, but you can get the smaller ones that are mottled blue, they are for teething or smaller dogs.

the whole point of the Kong is to make the dog work for the treat, using their tongue to l**k and their jaws to squeeze and their paws to "dig" it out. But don't worry, even if it is only getting a tiny bit at a time. when they get used to it, most dogs can get the treats out in less than five minutes.

  4. It's supposed to be hard, that's what makes it a long lasting toy to play with.

They just have to keep working it around, turning it over and digging around with their tongue.

My dogs especially love a little dab of peanut butter in their Kong -- like a bit of a spoonful.

  5. Trust me you don't have to put treats inside it, just put peanut butter inside and around the hole, it keeps them busy more than treats

  6. I use a fork. Or do it the gross way: Soak it in hot water for a while. The treat will get mushy and you can spoon it out.

  7. I second the peanut butter!!!!!

My dog licks her kong for HOURS when I put peanut butter in it. But be sure to have water ready when you get off the flight. You dont have to put too much peanut butter on the kong, your dog will l**k every teeny weeny trace of it.

  8. it is really hard. i made the hole bigger for my dog. you have to put like small bits of something in there or hang the treat half way out. they also have this cool stuff that is like that spray chees thhat u put on crackes excpet it is for dogs and its penut butter kong make is. and that stuff dogs LOVE it
