Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong enter in the top four of the All England Open Badminton Championship
Malaysia’s pair of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong booked their place in the semi-final of the All England Open Badminton Championship 2011, after beating the Indonesian pair of Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia in the quarterfinal, at Birmingham
today. The three-set-match took 49 minutes of hard labor from both sides. In the semi-final, the Malaysians will meet either Cai Yun – Fu Haifeng of China or Ko Sung Hyun – Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea.
Koo Kien – Tan Boon  started the game against the Olympic Champions in an impressive way as they took a good lead of 8-3 in the opening set; Till the interval, the Malaysian pair was leading the game by a decent margin of 11-9. After the interval, the Kido
– Setiawan accelerated the level of the game and leveled the score at 13-13. The fifth seeds again came on the driving seat and remained ahead in the rest of the set and won it by a tight margin of 21-19, in just 12 minutes.
In the second set the Malaysians again established a quick lead of 9-3 in a few minutes. They were playing an incredible game against fourth seeds of Indonesia. Koo Kien – Tan Boon were in a great position till the interval, where they were going ahead by
a huge difference of 11-4. After the one-minute-break, the Indonesians accelerated the speed of the game and scored 6 points in a row to reduce the difference at 10-11. The match became more interesting as both pairs were progressing with the same pace in
the second half of the game where the score reached at 12-12.
Both sides put great show in front of the packed indoor arena and pulled the attention of the crowd. The score remained equal till the crucial stage of 23-23. The Indonesians became more positive at this stage and scored the remaining two points and won
the set by 25-23, by consuming 22 minutes in the court.
In the final set of the quarterfinal match, Koo Kien – Tan Boon was leading the opening points of the game and built a good difference of 11-5, till the break. Kido – Setiawan tried hard to narrow the lead but lost their control. The Malaysians won the third
set by a superb margin of 21-11, in just 15 minutes. The 49-minute match ended in favour of Koo Kien – Tan Boon with a 21-19, 23-25 and 21-11 score on the board.
