Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong focus on training to eliminate their loop poles
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles ace shuttlers, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong decide to focus on certain areas of their game during their training sessions to eliminate their loop poles and make an improvement before the 2012 London Olympics.
Tan Kim Her, the head coach of Doubles had a discussion with the shuttlers yesterday. After the meeting, he said that Kien Keat and Boon Heong will draft their training to focus in certain areas of their game.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who are occupying the sixth place in Men’s Doubles world standings, are still passing through the biggest bad patch in their professional career.
Now both shuttlers are serious to get rid of this bad run and want to play top quality badminton, like they used to, before London Olympics. The mega event is just six months away and they need to get their prime form back if they want to keep their chance of winning a medal alive.
In the recent tournaments, Kien Keat and Boon Heong again suffered with unexpected defeats from such opponents, who were much lower to them in world rankings. They have lost confidence which is preventing them to get rid of their poor performance.
While talking about the training plan, Kim Her said that elite shuttlers need to contribute now as there will not have any spoon feeding from now onwards.
He said, “The coaches have been spoon-feeding the players all this while on needed to be done to improve their game. The players have always been receiving and not contributing. From now on, the players must be part of the planning.”
While talking about his meeting with Kien Keat and Boon Heong, Kim Her said that they have come out with some plan and the shuttlers will now work accordingly.
He said, “We spoke about their strong and weak points today. The players have to do some thinking and get back to us on what they feel needs to be done to improve their game. We will merge their plans with that of the coaches.”
Now, Kien Keat and Boon Heong will put more effort in their training sessions to eliminate their loop poles and to make improvement in all aspects of the game.
