Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong should reach in the title match at All England Open, says Razif Sidek
Malaysia’s former badminton player Razif Sidek said that the top Men’s Doubles pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong should perform well and reach in the title match of All England Open Premier Super Series, starting from March 6, in Birmingham, England.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong are World Number Six at the moment and have shown a little improvement in the last one month.
In the last month’s Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, Kien Keat and Boon Heong played good badminton as they registered their first win over Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong, who are currently World Number Four.
Now, the former All England Champion Razif wants them to live up to expectations and made it to the final of this prestigious tournament.
Razif said that a good performance at the All England Open will boost their confidence and they will be in good shape to perform at the 2012 London Olympics.
In the previous edition of All England Open, Kien Keat and Boon Heong reached in the final but could not overpower Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark and lost the match.
However, according to Razif, an elevated performance in this tournament will help them to perform well on consistent basis in upcoming tournaments and also to win the trust of their fans.
Razif said, “One good showing is not good enough to gain the trust of their fans, just yet. I know that their coaches have not set any targets as they don’t want to put them under pressure but I would like to see them reaching the final. It will show that
they are consistent.”
He further said, “A consistent and strong showing will give them a psychological edge against their opponents going into the Olympic Games. Koo and Tan have the talent and they should be winning more All-England titles.”
Kien Keat and Boon Heong have been in bad form for the last two years and could not win any major title in this period.
However, they have been putting their maximum effort in training sessions for the last couple of months and are in good shape to live up to expectations in the All England Open.
