Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong finally get back on track in major international events
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles top shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have been delivering poor performance for the last 30 months and have also been facing a severe criticism by different former players and coaches. However, after showing a steady performance
in recent tournaments, they seem to have found the right track and are looking forward to win the much needed breakthrough in the upcoming tournaments.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who have been placed at number four in Men’s Doubles world ranking at the moment, have been putting in extra effort in training sessions to get back their confidence. In the last three tournaments, they showed a good progress keeping
the hopes of Malaysian fans alive in Men’s Doubles category.
There is no other Malaysian Men’s Doubles pair who could cope up with the top shuttlers from China, Korea, Denmark and Indonesia except Kien Keat and Boon Heong who are capable of beating all top opponents on a given day considering that they have tremendous
skills of the trade.
The coach Tan Kim Her is happy with the recent performances of Kien Keat and Boon Heong who played two consecutive finals in Super Series events.
Kim Her stated, “They have been doing very well since the Olympics and the results in Japan, Denmark and France certainly count as some of their best in the past two years. They are definitely improving and slowly regaining their confidence.”
He further added, “What’s important is that they are on good terms and understand each other’s role and their aim. They still need to work on their finishing because they tend to get tense.”
The coach also said that Kien Keat and Boon Heong will start winning again when they start enjoying their game which is a key to victory. They cannot perform up to the expectations while playing under pressure and they need to stay confident on court which
will earn them maximum results.
In Japan Open Super Series 2012, Kien Keat and Boon Heong were close to their top form as they reached into the final. However, they failed to earn much needed breakthrough going down to Korea’s Kim Ki Jung and Kim Sa Rang.
At the last month’s Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2012, Kien Keat and Boon Heong again powered their way into the final after showing spectacular performance throughout the event. However, they again went down another Korean pair Yoo Yeon Seong and Shin
Baek Cheol in the final battle.
In the last week’s French Open Super Series 2012, Kien Keat and Boon Heong again showed a strong character and reached into the quarter-final when they, for the third time, lost to a Korean pair Ko Sung Hyun and Lee Yong Dae.
Despite failing against the Korean opponents on different stages in the last three major tournaments, Kien Keat and Boon Heong have shown a hunger for victory as they showed a great effort in the arena and seemed to get close to their top form.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong are the only hope for Malaysia in Men’s Doubles category as they have achieved top class skills and also are capable to pose threat to all top shuttlers from different leading countries of the world. Many expect that they are in
good shape at the moment and it will not take much time for them to break the deadlock.
