Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong need the right attitude to regain their lost glory – Badminton News
Malaysian Men’s Doubles pair, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong are suffering from a bad patch, as they have not been able to win any tournament in 2011.
The pair needs the right attitude along with the skills and speed, to regain their lost glory and to get into the right direction before the World Badminton Championships 2011 begins from August 8.
Tan Boon accepted that the duo’s performance needs something extra to compete with the top pairs of China, Indonesia, Denmark and Korea. The Malaysian pair has the opportunity to find their lost momentum by playing well, in the Malaysia Open GP Gold 2011.
Tan Boon is determined to end the pair’s bad performances against the lower ranked shuttlers in the major events.
Kien Keat and Tan Boon delivered a fantastic performance in the All England Premier Super Series 2011, where they defeated former world champions, Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun from China, and the ruling Olympic champions, Hendra Setiawan and Markis Kido of Indonesia.
However, the duo lost to the Danish pair in the final of the event.
A month later, Kien Keat and Tan Boon had to suffer from a shocking defeat from junior compatriots, Chooi Kah Ming and Ow Yao Han in the opening round of the Kuala Lumpur Open.
In the India Open Super Series, Noriyasu Hirata and Hirokatsu Hashimoto delivered a stunning performance by beating the Malaysian duo in the semi-final of the event.
Talking about the semi-final match of the India Open, Tan Boon said, “We were leading 17-13 against the Japanese pair in India and then, it all went wrong for us.”
The duo is exceptionally good in their speed and skills, but they need to work on their mental strength to beat top pairs in major events. Tan Boon is optimistic to overcome the deficiencies, which come in the way of victory.
He said, “We know our weaknesses very well. We will find ways to strengthen our approach to the game. Our coaches are ready to help us and we will work together to ensure that we are able to make our way up again.”
Kien Keat and Tan Boon are the top seeds in the home event of the Malaysia Open GP Gold. A victory in this event can put them on the right track, for the upcoming World Badminton Championships. The pair is determined to regain their lost glory by eliminating
their weaknesses in the home event.
