Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong need to play their part honestly to regain form, says Ng Chin Chai
NG Chin Chai, the chairman of Training and Coaching Committee of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), said that Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong need support at this crucial time, however, he also emphasised that the shuttlers should also perform
their role with honesty to regain their lost form.
Malaysia’s top shuttlers in the Men’s Doubles category, Kien Keat and Boon Heong are passing through the biggest bad patch in their professional career as they have been achieving nothing but consecutive failures in the last 11 months.
The World Number Five Malaysian shuttlers have failed to win any Super Series tournament in the current year and also have missed their chance to get into the top four positions in the Men’s Doubles world rankings.
Chin Chai wants the duo to perform well in the upcoming event of BWF Super Series Master’s Finals, which will take place from December 14-18 in China. He is optimistic that despite their failure to get a seeding in the tournament, the duo will perform well
against the seeded shuttlers.
While talking about the current position of the Malaysian duo, Chin Chai said they have lost the seeded position because of their quivering run in the current year.
He said, “They are no longer among the world’s top four pairs. They did not earn the right to be seeded for the Super Series Masters Finals after their ups and downs this year.” said Chin Chai.
He added, “But I want Koo and Tan to take this as a challenge and prove that the seedings are not a true reflection of a player’s status. I hope they will do better than the seeded pairs.”
Chin Chai said that the Malaysian pair will be up against the top shuttlers in the Super Series Finals and they have to prove their worth by putting up strong show of quality badminton.
He said, “They must also play their part and be honest about their efforts to turn their game around.”
By performing well in the last prestigious tournament of the current year, Kien Keat and Boon Heong can get precious ranking points which will help them to get higher place in the next year’s Olympic Games.
