Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong put in extra effort to revive their form – badminton news
Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who have been struggling hard to get rid of their dip in form for the last two years, are putting in extra effort during training sessions to revive their form.
The World Number Six Kien Keat and Boon Heong are currently working in the national training camp for Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, starting from February 13 in Macau.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) granted what Kien Keat and Boon Heong wanted and even made changes in the coaching staff to put them on the right track. However, the shuttlers failed to get their winning run back.
The High Performance Team (HPT) of BAM decided to stop giving extra privileges to the pair resulting to which they are now working with all national players in the Men’s Doubles squad.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong had been playing under the supervision of Rexy Mainaky for five years. Last year they requested BAM to change their coach and the governing body granted their permission and appointed Pang Cheh Chang as their coach but they again
failed to touch the mark.
However, Kien Keat and Boon Heong are now showing their commitment and working really hard in training sessions with other team-mates in the national camp. Tan Kim Her, the Doubles head coach, is satisfied with their hard work during training.
Kim Her said, “Kien Keat and Boon Heong have been training well with the rest of the team and have been really focused. In fact, all six doubles players in the Thomas Cup squad are doing well and this is a good sign.”
While talking about Malaysia’s match against South Korea in the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals, Kim Her said that despite the fact that Koreans are at the top in Men’s Doubles category but to win against them is not out of question for the Malaysian
players.
He said, “South Korea are definitely stronger while we are the underdogs but I believe they can be beaten. But in order to achieve that we need a proper strategy to take a point from the doubles. It won’t be easy and I may go with scratch pairs to upset
the Koreans’ plans.”
Now, the coaches are optimistic for better results considering the commitment Kien Keat and Boon Heong are showing in the training sessions.
