Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong take initiative towards elevation – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles best players, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong delivered a phenomenal performance in the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round in Macau last week. They won all of their three battles indicating that they have taken the initiative to get rid of their poor run at international stage.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who are currently World Number Six in Men’s Doubles category, have been facing a severe bad patch as they have not won any major tournament for the last two years.
However, their recent performance in the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals indicates that they have started their journey to reach at their peak again.
However, Tan Kim Her, the national head coach of Malaysia, said that Kien Keat and Boon Heong are not yet ready to shine at the upcoming All England Open Premier Super Series 2012, which will kick off on March 6, in Birmingham, England.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong were impressive in all matches at Macau last week and they also defeated Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong for the first time in their seven head-to-head meetings.
This recent performance of Kien Keat and Boon Heong shows their determination to find their winning form back and they are proceeding in the right direction.
While talking about Kien Keat and Boon Heong’s improvement and their prospects in the All England Open, Kim Her said that they have improved and that they need to beat at least one pair in the top four positions in this championship to get a boost in their confidence.
He said, "Kien Keat's fitness has improved and I feel they now know what they need to do. It is a good start here so they should keep chasing the top four pairs and try to beat them one by one."
He further added, "Their current progress is still not enough to take on the leading pairs and that's what they need to if they want to win in All England. They are showing commitment and if they can maintain it, it will serve them well in the Olympics."
Kien Keat and Boon Heong are working well and stand a good chance to deliver an elevated performance in the All England Open.
