Koo Kien Keat determined to revive Men’s Doubles status by delivering in Thomas Cup Qualifying Round
Malaysia’s ace shuttler Koo Kien Keat, who with his partner Tan Boon Heong is suffering with a prolonged bad patch, is determined to revive their Men’s Doubles status by performing well in the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, which will start from next week in Macau.
The World Number Six Kien Keat and Boon Heong have been struggling hard to get into the top-5 ranking bracket, but they have not reached the mark. They have been playing poor badminton and have struggled against lower ranked shuttlers for the last two years.
However, Kien Keat, who is working hard along with his partner in the training camp at Kuala Lumpur, is confident to play well in the upcoming events to put the pair back on the winning track.
In the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals, Malaysia has been drawn in the draw of South Korea and Hong Kong. In order to face easier opponent at the quarter-final stage, Malaysian shuttlers need to win both matches at group stage.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong will play the first doubles in the qualifying round which is crucial as if they lose their contest; the pressure will be on the back-up shuttlers who are not that experienced.
Nevertheless, a determined Kien Keat is ready to help his team to get desired results in the qualifying round. He has been playing remarkable badminton in all previous editions of Thomas Cup and is confident to play to his maximum potential in the upcoming edition as well.
He said, “There’s something about a team event where I tend to rise to the occasion. These have been difficult times but I am here today with a sincere pledge to give my best for the nation.”
He further added, “What’s important is to take the necessary steps in training to improve my physical condition. Boon Heong and I are the underdogs and must work on the right strategies to overcome our higher-ranked opponents.”
In a bid to revive their winning form, Kien Keat and Boon Heong are working hard in training sessions and they are determined to live up to the expectations by delivering their hundred percent in the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round.
