Koo Kien Keat satisfied with training stint ahead of the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat is satisfied with the one-week training stint held at the University of Bath prior to the 2011 World Championships, starting in London, on Monday, August 8.
Koo Kien Keat along with his partner, Tan Boon Heong, is looking forward to deliver a better performance in the mega event. They are the top seed in Malaysia and have a world ranking of Number Four in the category of Men’s Doubles.
The fun loving Koo Kien is happy with the training sessions in Bath, as he knows that if he had stayed at home then he would have been indulged in other distractions. Koo Kien said, “I would not have been able to do all this at home without having to deal
with so many other distractions. At home, I have to spend a lot of time travelling from the training venue to the gymnasium. I also like to hang out with my friends ... and there are other chores to do.”
While talking about the training condition at the University of Bath, Koo Kien added, “Here, I have nothing to do but just focus on my training. The facilities are all under one roof. The cold water in the pool (10°C) is just adjacent to the warmer one and
this process helps us to recover better after a hard day’s work.”
Koo Kien and Tan Boon finished-off at the runner-up position in the last edition of the World Championships, where they lost to China’s Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun in the final of the event. It was a wonderful three-set fight in which the Chinese duo prevailed
at the end by playing slightly better badminton.
The training camp in Bath will end in the evening today and the whole Malaysian team will then leave for London, where they will practice at the Wembley Arena, which is the venue for the World Championships. Koo Kien is quite optimistic that the pair will
get good results in the mega event, as they are well prepared to perform well this time.
