Question:

Kookaburra Attacking Window. Help needed please!?

We have recently moved to the mountains and we have a kookaburra that every morning without fail attacks our window. And this is not some quiet tapping this is like someone is throwing a baseball at the window! I have googled the subject and some say the last tennet might have been feeding it. But we inspected the house three weeks before we moved in and it was empty and we have been living here for about 7 weeks. Some say it is attacking it reflection. We have tried everything, we have put a scary mask at the window, hung cd's up and now we have boxes covering the window. This kookaburra is now attacking the boxes!!! I didnt want to hurt the bird or have it relocated as i have read that they will die or something and i know he has a mate here but im 37 weeks pregnant and the thought of getting my baby to sleep only to have the bird smash the window and wake it up makes me cranky already! Any ideas that wont cost too much money would be greatly appreciated.

  1. How about calling your local government Wildlife Service? Or Animal Control?

  2. i would guess that the bird is nesting near the window. we had a robin nest in the tree outside our house and it kept attacking the window no matter what we did to "defend its nestlings" until it killed itself :( from doing so. this is the only time a bird has ever refused to stop attacking the windows for us.

you could try painting the window with temperary paint. if the bird is nesting the boxes would be threatening but if you paint the window there is no reflection and nothing the bird would feel threatened by. you could also try getting a large dog/large bird statue and placing it outside the window if painting it doesn't work. then the bird would probably attack the statue, but its better than your window.

    good luck!

  3. i would try feeding it or uh call animal control or uhh try to take care of it somehow

  4. Put some food for it outside. Maybe it will stop then. :)

  5. Can you put some sacks of cloth over the window so that it looks differnet and can no longer see a reflection (if that was the cause)?

Otherwise I'd consider getting some cheap foam or old pillows and putting them over the window. It will look strange, but will make the noise of the kookaburra attacking the window quieter even if it can't stop it.

  6. he may have been fed from there irregardless and be waiting for more food try feeding him. is it just once a day at the same time?

try a scarecrow as well Congrats on baby and noise does not wake up a fully asleep baby so don't worry much about that I have 6 kids the baby can sleep through teen parades
