Kops-Jones/Spears dismantle Albanese/Brengle in the opening round of doubles – Bell Challenge 2011
Seeded at number one in the draws, the American duo of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears have a comprehensive victory against their fellow compatriots, Lauren Albanese and Madison Brengle in the opening round of Bell Challenge
on Monday.
The all-American affair was settled at 6-3, 6-0, by the belligerent top seeded duo in just 67 minutes of play to move into the quarter-finals of the $220,000 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament.
The contest was played on the hard courts of Quebec, Canada, with Kops-Jones and Spears registering a convincing straight sets victory to clear the opening round. They gave absolutely no chance to Albanese and Brengle to settle
down in the contest and clinched 12 of the total 15 games being played in the entire contest.
The top seeded pair delivered 78 per cent of its serve on target and amazingly reeled off 23 out of 28 first serve points in the matchup to come out as the winner in the end. Kops-Jones and Spears crafted 10 break opportunities
and converted half of then en route to victory, while their bleak opponents failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup to finish on the losing side.
Kops-Jones and Spears took a steady start in the opener, getting their eye in the game and gradually took up pace to overtake the other American pair. Albanese and Brengle suffered the first serve break from their opponents in
the fourth game of the set and then again in the sixth game to fall on their back foot early in the competition. The top seeded duo held their lead till the conclusion of the first set at 6-3 and carried on their winning impetus in the following set as well.
The second set was completely dominated by Kops-Jones and Spears, as the top seeded duo broke their opponents in their every single serve game to rocket away to victory on the most authoritative note. Kops-Jones and Spears sealed
the contest at 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Bell Challenge, where they will take on the pair of Melinda Czink and Andrea Hlavackova for a place in the semis.
