Kops-Jones/Spears down Grandin/Uhlirova to reach final – KDB Korea Open 2012
Top seeded Americans, Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, tumbled the South African-Czech duo, Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova, in straight sets at the KDB Korea Open Tennis Championship 2012 on Friday. They juggled up a 6-3, 6-3 success against the third
seeds to power into the title-round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event taking place in Seoul, South Korea.
The American junction showed brilliant team work to outmuscle Grandin and Uhlirova in their second encounter at this outdoor hard court event. The contestants last fought each other at the Qatar Ladies Open earlier this circuit and after earning this fame,
Kops-Jones and Spears maintained their winning record.
Kops-Jones and Spears made a convincing entry at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center. They smoothly bagged their entire serves without facing any hindrance. The Americans drew the first blood in the fifth game and after capitalising on another break chance
in the last game, they sealed the opener by winning six games to three.
The in-form American tandem kept momentum rolling in the following set. They got the coveted break in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. Kops-Jones and Spears held their remaining serves without facing any breakpoint and subsequently clinched the
set with a 6-3 score line.
All in all, the Americans coughed several unforced errors but clobbered a better first serve share of 62 per cent as opposed to their rivals’ 50 per cent. They amazingly marked 23 out of 31 points on it smashed two aces to prevail.
Kops-Jones and Spears lost a single set en route to the final round. They crushed the Colombian-Czech pair, Catalina Castano and Eva Hrdinova, with a bagel to reach quarters. In the final eight, the Americans battled past the Croatian-Hungarian team of Darija
Jurak and Katalin Marosi in a three set thriller to set up this battle.
The delighted Americans will square off against the Uzbekistani-American duo, Akgul Amanmuradova and Vania King, in the final showdown. The unseeded junction overpowered the Austrian-Czech tandem, Tamira Paszek and Klara Zakopalova, in three sets the following
day. Amanmuradova and King remained focused throughout the battle and eventually carved out the victory in just under two hours.
