Korea Open GP Gold: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka digs deep to beat Young Nam Park in the first round
Indonesia’s in-form player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka faced strong resistance from his Korean opponent, Young Nam Park in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Korea Open GP Gold, in Korea, on Wednesday, December 7.
Rumbaka has been placed at number 23 in the Men’s Singles world rankings and the 7th seed in the Korea Open, had to dig deep into his arsenal to produce killing strokes to beat the spirited Korean. The Indonesian finished up the match in three
games by working hard for 44 minutes.
The opening set was thrilling when both shuttlers played attacking badminton and remained close but Korean remained successful in winning the game. However, the Indonesian bounced back in the match and took the following two games with an incredible margin
and advanced into the second round of the tournament.
Young Nam opened the first set in a thrilling fashion as he matched the speed of his higher ranked Indonesian opponent and remained close in the whole match. Rumbaka tried to take a comfortable lead but his local opponent was impressive in all areas of the
court.
The Korean spared no room for the Indonesian to dominate the rallies. Rumbaka failed to control the rallies in the ending points and lost the set with a tight margin of 20-22.
In the following set, Rumbaka made a powerful comeback in the match as he took no time to establish a stunning lead in the opening half of the second game. Young Nam failed to continue his impressive play in the second game as he started to make many mistakes
and completely lost his focus in the game.
However, Rumbaka was quite focused this time as he spared no chance for the Korean to fight back in the contest. He finished up the game with a superb difference of 21-8.
In the deciding game, the seventh seed Indonesian continued his striking run and pushed his Korean challenger in all corners of the court. The planned and aggressive play of Rumbaka helped him to take the final set with a stunning score of 21-8.
The Indonesian finished off this opening round match with a 20-22, 21-8 and 21-8 score by consuming 44 minutes in the court.
