Korea Open GP Gold: Yoo Yeon Seong and Ye Na Jang topple their team-mates to win Mixed Doubles crown
Korea’s in-form couple of Yoo Yeon Seong and Ye Na Jang have stamped their superiority in the game as they have clinched Mixed Doubles crown after defeating their higher ranked team-mates, Ki Jung Kim and Kyung Eun Jung in the final of the 2011 Korea Open
GP Gold, in Korea, on Sunday, December 11.
Yeon Seong and Ye Na, who were the un-seeded in the Mixed Doubles draw of the Korea Open, played killing badminton and trounced their higher ranked opponents, Ki Jung and Kyung Eun, who were the 7th seeds in the tournament. The un-seeded Koreans
took just 35 minutes to claim the title by winning the title match by finishing it in straight games.
The opening game remained close until the ending points when Yeon Seong and Ye Na dictated the pace with their wonderful aggressive play and won the set with a reasonable score on the board. In the following set, both sides progressed closely in the game
and reached at the ending points when the un-seeded couple showed their skills again and took the game with a tight score.
Ki Jung and Kyung Eun were the heavy favourites for the title as they have been delivering superb performances for the last six months. But Yeon Seong and Ye Na spoiled the party of higher ranked compatriots by playing flawless badminton and took the match
in two games.
Yeon Seong and Ye Na started to play with aggression from the opening points of the match when they remained successful in dominating the pace of the rallies. However, their opponents also played well and remained close until the break. After the break,
Yeon Seong and Ye Na played perfect game from all areas of the court and won it with a margin of 21-17.
In the second set, the crowd could not have asked for better fight as both sides played attacking badminton. The cracking sound of powerful smashes could be heard anywhere in the huge indoor arena. The score reached at the concluding stage of the second
game when Yeon Seong and Ye Na played smart badminton and took the set with a tight score of 21-19. The final result of this title match was 21-17 and 21-19.
