Korea Open Grand Prix Gold: Hye Youn Hwang ousts Xiao Jia Chen in the Women’s Singles round-of-16

Korea’s Hye Youn Hwang has entered into Women’s Singles quarter-final after putting up a stunning performance in the round-of-16 contest when she defeated China’s Xiao Jia Chen in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, on Thursday, December 8, in Korea.
The un-seeded Hye Youn displayed a wonderful show of top class badminton and emerged as the winner against the Chinese shuttler in a three-set contest which lasted for 70 minutes. The Korean took played dominating game in the whole match and remained successful
in making her mark over Xiao Jia.
The opening game was close in the first half but Hye Youn dictated the pace of the game in the concluding part and won the set. However, the Chinese played better badminton in the second game and levelled the match by winning it. The deciding game was completely
one-sided when the Korean crushed the Chinese with an incredible difference.
Hye Youn played attacking game in the opening rallies but her opponent was relying on defensive strokes and powerful drives. They moved forward while remaining close until the end of the opening half.
However, the Korean stunned her Chinese opponent after the one-minute break when she played tremendous badminton and extended her lead to take the game with a decent 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game of the match, both females remained toe-to-toe in the first half by playing aggressive game. The score was equal until the final phase of the second game when the Korean became a little relaxed and paid the price by losing second game
with a three-point difference of 18-21.
In the deciding game, Hey Youn started the game in a completely different manner as she found her finishing touch. Her impressive play at the net and powerful smashes from the rear court maintained pressure on the Chinese. The Korean played with precision
in the whole set and ended it with a stunning 21-7 score on the board. Hye Youn won the match with a 21-18, 18-21 and 21-7 score on the board.
In the quarter-final, Hye Youn will take on her higher ranked team-mate, Ji Hyun Sung, who defeated Jing Yi tee of Malaysia in the pre-quarter-final contest.
