Korea Open Grand Prix Gold: Wang Zhengming overpowers Sung Min Park in Men’s Singles second round
China’s young and spirited shuttler, Wang Zhengming have entered into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating Korea’s Sung Min Park in the second round of the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, on Thursday, December 8, in Korea.
Zhengming, who is currently World Number 14, is placed at number four in the Men’s Singles draw of Korea Open. He was severely tested by the Korean shuttler in a three-set battle of 60 minutes. However, the higher ranked Chinese appeared as the victorious
and reached into pre-quarter-final of the championship.
The Chinese won the opening game with a wonderful score by playing impressive badminton. Nevertheless, the Korean played well having the support of home crowd and levelled the score by taking the second game. In the deciding set, both player put up a mouth-watering
show of top quality badminton until the ending stage when the Chinese remained lucky to score the winning point.
Right from the opening points, Zhengming played impressive game as he kept the pace of the rallies at the highest level and remained in superb control. He dictated his Korean rival in all areas of the court by taking the bird early.
The wonderful stroke placement of Zhengming spared no room for the Korean to fight back in the game. The Chinese took the first set with an incredible score of 21-10.
In the following set, Sung Min, who was having the support of the home crowd, played attacking badminton and dominated the pace of the rallies in the whole game. Zhengming failed to dictate the pace as his challenger was also playing at the same speed. The
Chinese committed a few errors in the second half of the game and lost the set with a 16-21 score.
In the decider, both players snapped each other’s heel by playing at their best. The cracking sounds of strokes could be heard in all areas of the indoor gymnasium which grabbed the interest of the crowd. Both shuttlers entered into the concluding phase
without any considerable lead.
Zhengming showed his skills in the ending points and remained successful in taking the set with a tight difference of 21-19. The Chinese won this three-set match with a margin of 21-10, 16-21 and 21-19.
