Korea Open Premier Super Series: Du Pengyu overpowers Hu Yun in Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s young player, Du Pengyu, has secured a place in the last eight as he has played terrific badminton and won the Men’s Singles round-of-16 match against Hong Kong’s Hu Yun at the 2012 Korea Open Premier Super Series on Thursday, January 5, at Seoul, Korea.
Pengyu, who has been placed at number 11 in the world standings, worked well against the World Number 23 Yun and won the fight in three games. It was a fabulous battle when both players displayed their impressive skills and entertained the crowd for 69 minutes.
In the opening game of this pre-quarter-final contest, the Chinese showed his elite skills and won it with a stunning score. However, in the following game, Yun played well and levelled the match by taking the game.
The deciding game was breath-taking when both shuttlers remained close and at the ending points, it was Pengyu who remained successful in winning the set.
Pengyu was the favourite for this match on paper but he had to work extra hard as his opponent made it difficult for him to advance into the next stage.
The start of the match was stunning when the higher ranked Chinese showed no mercy to his rival in the whole set by playing flawless badminton. He dictated the pace of rallies and did not let his opponent fight back in the game and won it with a stunning 21-5 score on the board.
In the second set, Yun fought back in the match as he changed his strategy and worked well throughout the game. He made no mistake this time and dictated the pace throughout the set. Pengyu could not continue his domination in this game and lost it with a margin of 14-21.
In the deciding game, both men pushed each other in all areas by playing at their best speed. The score moved closely from both sides as they did not miss any chance until the ending phase.
At this stage, Pengyu showed his supremacy by playing with incredible aggression and took the game with a tight score of 21-19. This round-of-16 contest ended in 69 minutes with a 21-5, 14-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
