Korea Open Premier Super Series: Jan O Jorgensen upsets Chen Jin in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Denmark’s in-form young shuttler, Jan O Jorgensen, has secured a quarter-final berth after upsetting the higher ranked Chen Jin of China in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, in South Korea, on Thursday, January 5.
The un-seeded Jorgensen, who has been positioned at number 16 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, played to his maximum potential against the former World Champion and current World Number 5, Jin, in a thrilling rubber-set match.
The higher ranked Chinese failed to dominate the game against the Danish rival and lost the battle without impressing the crowd.
Jorgensen started the first set in an aggressive manner but failed to control the pace of the rallies. On the other hand, Jin was focused in the game as he played perfect badminton and pushed the Danish in all corners. Until the break, the Chinese was leading
the game with a reasonable margin.
After the break, Jin continued his impressive performance against the Danish, who could not find the right areas to earn points. The lower ranked Jorgensen lost the opening game with a six-point margin of 15-21.
However, it was a different story in the second set as Jorgensen played at the highest level of the game. He dominated the pace of rallies and troubled his challenger by pushing him in all areas of the court. Until the break, Jorgensen was in somewhat better
position as compared to his rival.
The higher ranked Jin could not control the pace of rallies in the second half of the set while Danish shuttler remained on track by playing with aggression. Jorgensen took the second set with a comfortable score of 21-16.
In the deciding game, Jorgensen stunned the Chinese shuttler in a remarkable manner as he played at his best speed. He took the bird early and disturbed the flow of his higher ranked challenger. The perfectly executed smashes of the Danish spared no chance
for Jin to fight back in the game.
Jorgensen did not face any trouble from his Chinese challenger throughout the deciding game and took it with a stunning 21-12 score on the board. The end result of this 73-minute Men’s Singles battle was 15-21, 21-16 and 21-12.
