Korea Open Premier Super Series: Kenichi Tago ousts Nguyen Tien Minh in Men’s Singles first round
Japan’s in-form shuttler, Kenichi Tago, has proved his worth as he has defeated the higher ranked Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the Men’s Singles first round of the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, on Wednesday, January 4, at Seoul, South Korea.
Tago, who has been placed at number 12 in Men’s Singles world standings, played attacking badminton and overpowered Tien Minh who is World Number Eight at the moment. The Japanese displayed his elite skills and ousted his rival in three games by taking 63
minutes in the court.
The opening game was thrilling when both shuttlers played tremendous badminton until the ending points when Tien Minh remained successful in winning the set with a close score. However, Tago bounced back in the game and took both remaining games with a terrific
margin.
Tago played with precision in the first set against the Vietnamese but failed to manage a comfortable lead as his opponent was also playing positive and fast badminton. The score remained close because both men delivered top class performance until the ending
points when Tago played wrong shots and lost the set with a margin of 19-21.
Stung by the loss of previous game, Tago put up stunning show of attacking badminton in the second set and established an early lead. He remained on track throughout the game and dictated the pace of rallies in all corners of the court.
Tago’s impressive anticipation along with perfect execution of strokes helped him to maintain a superb control over the pace of rallies. He played positive game and finished it with a surprising score of 21-10.
In the final set of this interesting match was a one-sided fight as Tago was everywhere in the court and he spared no room for Tien Minh to fight back in the match. He remained miles ahead by dominating the game and maintained pressure on the higher ranked
Tien Minh.
A positive approach helped Tago to end the deciding game with a stunning margin of 21-9. He registered a remarkable victory over the Vietnamese with an overall score of 19-21, 21-10 and 21-9.
