Korea Open Premier Super Series: Lee Chong Wei advances to set up final clash with Lin Dan
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei has set up a final clash with China’s Lin Dan in the title match of the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012. In the semi-final contest, Chong Wei slaughtered Du Pengyu at Seoul, South Korea, on Saturday, January 7,
Chong Wei, who is currently World Number One in Men’s Singles world standings, played to his maximum speed and did not spare any chance for Pengyu to survive in the whole match.
The Malaysian showed no respect at all to the Chinese opponent and stamped his supremacy in a striking fashion.
By showing his impressive skill, Chong Wei finished the semi-final fight in straight games by taking just 37 minutes in the court. With this victory, he has got a chance to take revenge from the second finalist, Lin, who emerged as the winner in the title
match of Korea Open last year.
Speculations were high as many thought that Pengyu will give a good fight to Chong Wei but the Malaysian destroyed all hopes of the Chinese shuttler without showing mercy. The top seed crushed Pengyu with a wonderful margin and proved that he is the best
in business.
Chong Wei started the game in a confident and aggressive way as he played with precision and took an early lead. Pengyu tried to cope up with the pace of rallies but failed as he was helpless against the perfect play of the Malaysian.
The top seed remained on track in the whole set and did not drop his speed. The planned and focused play of Chong Wei helped him to end the opening game with terrific 21-8 score on the board.
In the second game, Pengyu changed his mind and played with superb aggression. He matched the speed of his higher ranked Malaysian rival and remained close until the score reached at 11-11. At this stage, Chong Wei became aggressive and started to dominate
the pace of rallies.
The Malaysian played positive badminton scored seven consecutive points to reach at 18-11. Pengyu was helpless against the aggressive play of his opponent. The Malaysian finished up the second set with a wonderful score of 21-13. The end result of this one-sided
fight was 21-8 and 21-13.
In the final showdown, Chong Wei will take on his nemesis, Lin, who has got rid of Japan’s Sho Sasaki in the second semi-final of the tournament.
