Korea Open Premier Super Series: Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan one step away to set up a dream final
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei and China’s Lin Dan are one step away to set-up a dream final as both have reached in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Korea Open Premier Super Series. They won their quarter-final matches on Friday, January 6, at the indoor
arena in Seoul, South Korea.
Badminton fans from around the world want to see the World Number One Chong Wei and the defending champion Lin in the title match of the Korea Open.
In the quarter-final contest, Chong Wei defeated Japan’s Kenichi Tago in a straight-set contest with a 21-18 and 21-17 margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Lin struggled against Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen and managed to win the fight in three games by a margin of 21-13, 8-21 and 21-15.
In the semi-final showdown, Chong Wei is set to face China’s spirited shuttler, Du Pengyu, who got better of Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in the Men’s Singles quarter-final encounter.
The second seed Lin will face an in-form Japanese shuttler, Sho Sasaki, who overpowered Germany’s Marc Zwiebler at the top-8 stage.
While expressing his views on the slow shuttle c**k in Korea Open, Malaysia’s Men’s Singles national coach, Tey Seu Bock said that playing with a slow shuttle is quite challenging for those players who have an attacking style of play like Chong Wei and Lin.
He said, “It is not easy to kill the rallies and it takes a lot out of a player physically. This is probably the reason why Lin Dan also have to go the distance. The speed of the shuttle is slower and it doesn’t give advantage to players who play aggressively.”
He further added, “It is also hard to play rallies as it is very hard to control. Pengyu is the kind of player who likes slow shuttle as he relies on rallies and endurance. Chong Wei has to work hard again tomorrow (today) but he should pull through.”
If Chong Wei and Lin pass their quarter-final test, it will be repeat final in the Korea Open as the same players reached in the final of last edition of this tournament and the Chinese shuttler emerged as the winner.
