Korea Open Premier Super Series: Lin Dan beats Lee Hyun Il to reserve a quarter-final berth
China’s ruling World Champion and Olympic gold medallist, Lin Dan, has reserved a quarter-final berth after beating Korea’s experienced player, Lee Hyun Il, in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, in Korea, on Thursday,
January 5.
The World Number Two Lin, who is widely regarded as the best shuttler in the world of badminton, played quivering game initially but recovered well at the right time and won the match in well-fought three games.
Lin destroyed the hopes of local shuttler by playing to his maximum potential and took the match by taking 59 minutes.
In the opening game of the match, Lee Hyun, who had the support of huge home crowd, played with superb precision and remained dominant in the opening half of the game. On the other hand, Lin failed to find good flow as he committed many unforced errors and
remained behind his rival.
After the break, the Chinese accelerated his speed but failed to level the score as Lee Hyun was everywhere in the court. Lin lost the first set with a stunning difference of 11-21.
In the second game, the Chinese geared up his speed from the opening points and played with wonderful power. His jumping smashes destroyed the defence of his Korean challenger throughout the second game. Until the 60-second break of second game, Lin was
moving far ahead of Lee Hyun.
After the break, Lin remained positive in the game and executed drives in all corners of the court. Lee Hyun remained struggling in taking the bird early and failed to place his strokes in the right areas. Lin remained on track and ended the second game
with a superb score of 21-12.
In the final set, Lin was everywhere in the court as he played at his best speed and did not spare even a single chance to his rival to dominate the game. He played with aggression and won the deciding set with a fabulous score of 21-10.
The overall score of this 59-minute rubber-set match was 11-21, 21-12 and 21-10.
In the quarter-final contest, Lin will take on Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, who thrashed Chen Jin of China in the pre-quarter-final battle.
