Korea Open Premier Super Series: Sung Min Park ousts Dong Keun Lee in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Korea’s emerging player, Sung Min Park, put up a superb show of quality badminton as he defeated his compatriot Dong Keun Lee in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2012 Korea Open Premier Super Series, in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, January 3.
Sung Min displayed a phenomenal performance in his opening match of the qualifying round and won it after well-fought three games. Dong Keun played competitive badminton but failed to make his mark over his team-mate in the final set and lost the fight in 56 minutes.
Dong Keun took the opening set in a one-sided way and proved that he has superb skills which are required to become a top class shuttler. However, he lost his focus in the second set and his opponent took the second game with a remarkable difference.
In the final set, Sung Min remained on track and showed no mercy to his rival in the whole set and finished it with a margin of 21-15.
Sung Min played aggressive badminton in the opening set but failed to control the bird in the front-court area. He committed many unforced errors which helped his rival to get a strong position in the whole match. He could not recover in the whole set and lost it with a one-sided difference of 12-21.
In the second game, Sung Min played a planned game and targeted the side lines of the court. He remained positive and took the bird early from all areas of the court and put pressure on his rival.
Dong Keun Lee failed to perform well in the second game as he lost his focus and also played quivering game. The positive play of Sung Min helped him to maintain pressure on his opponent in the whole set and he ended it with a margin of 21-14.
In the decider, both shuttlers employed every skill they had to take an early lead. But no one could manage it until the end of opening half when the score was tight. After the break, Sung Min played with precision and took a comfortable lead.
Sung Min maintained his lead against Dong Keun and finished the set with a margin of 21-15. The end result of this 56-minute Men’s Singles qualifying round battle was 12-21, 21-14 and 21-15.
