Korea Open Premier Super Series: Wang Shixian ousts Bae Youn Joo in Women’s Singles semi-final
China’s Wang Shixian has finally finds her winning form as she has reached into Women’s Singles final of the 2012 Korea Open premier Super Series. In the semi-final showdown, she destroyed the hopes of Korea’s Bae Youn Joo on Saturday, January 7, in South
Korea.
The World Number Three Shixian, who is the second seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, showed her fabulous skills and shut out the Korean in a striking fashion. The Chinese lady did not show any urgency as she took 48 minutes to win the match
in straight games.
In the opening set, Shixian played her normal game and faced no trouble in taking it with a good difference. In the following game, Youn Joo geared up her speed but failed to play positive badminton and lost the set with a decent score.
Shixian started the first game in a composed manner but failed to build a comfortable lead as her local opponent was also playing with the same speed. Youn Joo, who was having the support of home crowd, matched the speed of her higher ranked rival until
the score reached at 8-8.
At this stage, Shixian started to anticipate the shots of her challenger and remained successful in scoring three points in a row. Until the one-minute interval in the first game of this semi-final clash, the Chinese shuttler was ahead at 11-8.
After the break, Shixian did not let her opponent to level the score at any stage of the second half. She played positive badminton while remaining calm and ended the opening set with a comfortable difference of 21-15.
In the second set, it was Youn Joo who played dominating badminton and remained successful in taking an early lead of 7-3. However, she could not confine her opponent as Shixian changed the pace of rallies and started to reduce the gap.
The higher ranked Chinese lady took over the control and played with variations in her strokes. She did not face tough resistance from Youn Joo and remained ahead in the second set and won it with a decent 21-16 score on the board. The concluding score of
this straight-set semi-final encounter was 21-15 and 21-16.
In the title match, Shixian will take on her team-mate Jiang Yanjiao, who stunned her senior compatriot and World Number One, Wang Yihan, in the other semi-final fight.
