Korea Open Premier Super Series: Wang Shixian tames Jiang Yanjiao to win Women’s Singles title
China’s Wang Shixian finds a winning start in the opening week of current year as she has bagged the Women’s Singles title at the 2012 Korea Open Premier Super Series. In the final showdown, she defeated her team-mate Jiang Yanjiao at the indoor arena in
Seoul, Korea, on Sunday, January 8.
The World Number Three Shixian has been struggling hard for the last six months and faced many uncharacteristic defeats in difference international tournaments. However, with her victory in Korea Open, she is back on the winning track.
Throughout the whole event, Shixian remained unbeatable for all top shuttlers as she did not drop even a single game in all matches and continued this trend in the title match as well.
The remarkable play of Shixian spared no chance for her lower ranked compatriot to dominate the pace of rallies. She ended the match in straight games by taking just 38 minutes in the court.
Shixian opened the first set in a relaxed manner but kept a good control over the rallies. The score was 5-5 when she geared up her speed and put pressure on her opponent. Yanjiao tried to cope-up with the pace of rallies but failed to take the bird early.
The higher ranked Shixian was focused in the game and executed strokes with wonderful variations. Her deceptive shots on both sides in the front-court area put Yanjiao in trouble. Until the one-minute interval, Shixian established a comfortable lead of 11-7.
After the break, the higher ranked Chinese lady continued her impressive run in the game. She did not spare any chance for her country-mate to fight back in the game. Shixian won the opening game with a wonderful score of 21-12.
In the second set of this title match, Yanjiao came in the court with an aggressive approach and managed a good lead of 9-5.
However, she failed to maintain the gap as her higher ranked rival lifted up her play and levelled the score by reaching 9-9. Until the break, Shixian was ahead at 11-10.
After the interval, the score remained tight until 16-17 when Shixian elevated her level of play and scored five points in a row to win the second set with a 21-17 score on the board.
This 38-minute title match ended with a 21-12 and 21-17 score on the board.
