Korea Open Premier Super Series: Wang Zhengming hammers Boonsak Ponsana in Men’s Singles first round
China’s Wang Zhengming has advanced into Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final after taming Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana in first round of the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, at Seoul, Korea, on Wednesday, January 4.
The World Number 14 Zhengming, who has been playing quivering badminton for the last six months, put up superb show against Ponsana and won the battle in straight games by taking just 26 minutes in the court.
Ponsana, who has been struggling hard to find a good form for the last one year, played shaky game against the young Chinese and bowed in straight sets without taking a single game.
Zhengming remained ahead in both games of the match and spared no chance for his Thai opponent to put up strong resistance.
The opening points of the first game were interesting when both players progressed equally by playing an attacking badminton. The score was 4-4 when Zhengming started to lift his level of play and remained successful in building up a stunning lead of 11-5.
Ponsana failed to find a good flow as he could not return the powerful smashes of his opponent. He was moving slow in the court and remained trailing behind Zhengming. The Chinese was in complete control of the game.
After the break, Zhengming did not slow down the pace of rallies and kept on troubling his opponent with his impressive speed in all areas of the court. He played positive game and maintained pressure by working well at the net.
The power-play of Zhengming helped him to take the first set with a completely one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
In the following set of the match, Zhengming played in the similar aggressive fashion. However, Ponsana was quicker this time as compared to the previous set and managed to remain close until 10-10.
Zhengming accelerated his speed at this stage and managed to build a small lead of 11-10 until the one-minute interval in the second game.
After the break, the score was 12-11 when Zhengming hammered the Thai shuttler by scoring seven consecutive points to reach at 19-11. Ponsana failed to stop the progress of his higher ranked Chinese opponent in this set.
Zhengming finished the second game in style with a fabulous score of 21-12. The overall result of this straight-set contest was 21-9 and 21-12.
