Korea Open Premier Super Series: Yong Zhao Ashton Chen beats Joachim Persson in the qualifying round
Singapore’s Yong Zhao Ashton Chen has reserved his berth in the Men’s Singles main round after beating Denmark’s Joachim Persson in qualifying round of the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, at Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, January 3.
The un-seeded Singaporean stunned the crowd with his fascinating skills as he played flawless badminton and thrashed the experienced Persson in a superb rubber-set fight. He consumed 60 minutes to make his presence felt to the local crowd and powered his way into main round of the event.
Yong Zhao started the first game with a wonderful confidence as he did not commit any mistake and remained successful in pushing his opponent in all areas of the court. The accurate placement his strokes left no choice for his opponent but to remain trailing in all corners.
The young Singaporean played with precision and maintained his domination on the pace of the rallies. Persson found himself helpless against the impressive power-play of his challenger in the whole opening game. Yong Zhao advanced with grace and won the game with a fabulous margin of 21-12.
In the second set, Persson lifted up his level and played aggressive badminton against the in-form Yong Zhao, who was also playing positive game. Until the one-minute break, both men could not manage to take a lead as no one committed mistakes.
After the break, this entertaining fight continued in the similar fashion and the score reached at the concluding phase. At this crucial stage, Yong Zhao committed a mistake and lost the set with a tight 20-22 score on the board.
In the final set of this thrilling match, both players entertained the crowd with their fast and attacking play and remained close until the 60-second break. However, Yong Zhao started to take control of the rallies and remained successful in managing a good lead.
Yong Zhao remained on the right track by playing composed and positive badminton in the whole set and finished it with a comfortable score of 21-15. This 60-minute Men’s Singles battle ended with a 21-12, 20-22 and 21-15 score on the board.
