Korea Open Premier Super Series set to unveil the best players in badminton – Preview
The Korea Open Premier Super Series, which is one of the most lucrative tournaments in the world of Badminton, is set to kick-off from today, January 25. This million-dollar event has grabbed the attention of all major players representing different nations.
All the top shuttlers are going to have a tough competition in Seoul, as the draws have been declared. Denmark’s top seed, Peter Hoeg Gade, is quite determined to make a good run in this tournament as it is going to probably be his last event in Korea.
The mega event also holds hefty prize money when compared to any other event throughout the world of badminton. This factor also pulls the attention of top athletes from around the world.
In the event of the Men’s singles, all the top shuttlers are going to battle to prove their supremacy. Defending champion, Lee Chong Wei, who has recently grabbed the title of the PROTON Malaysian Open Super series is the top seed and favourite for this
title, as he is in terrific form.
Other major contenders like Taufiq Hidayat, who was the runner-up in the Malaysian Open, the winner of the China Open, Chen Long, the reigning World Champion, Chen Jin and another class act, Lin Dan, will be present to lift the title.
Korea is somewhat in a meagre position in this home event, as the top Korean seed, Park Sung Hwan, is struggling for the last few months to find form. The winner of the 2008 Korea Open, Lee Hyun Il, is going to meet China’s Wang Zhengming, for securing his
place into the main draw. Shon Wan Ho will have to defeat Japanese Kenichi Tago in the first round, to proceed in the event.
Bao Chunlai, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Boonsak Ponsana and Simon Santoso will also be players to watch out for in the main draw of the Men’s Singles. If Lin Dan recovers from his injury and plays according to his repute, then he is going to meet the second seed,
Taufiq Hidayat, in the quarter-final. Lin Dan is yet to be beaten by the Indonesian, since his last defeat in 2006.
Lee Chong Wei, the World Number One is playing his best badminton, as he has won the home title and is determined to defend it in the upcoming event in Seoul. If things go as expected, then Chong Wei, who has a difficult draw, will see the current world
champion and fifth seed, Chen Jin, in the quarter-final.
The seventh seed talented shuttler, Boonsak Ponsana, is going to meet Indonesian, Simon Santoso, in the first round. The winner will have a rather easy second round match and in the quarter-final, the opponent will likely meet the impressive Danish player,
Peter Hoeg Gade, who is the third seed in this event.
All these players and some other upcoming acts in the Men’s Singles category will shine in this mega event. These top athletes are going to put up a fascinating show in the Korea Open Premier Super Series, for proving their supremacy in the arena of badminton.
