Korea defeats China by 3-2 in a FIVB Men’s World Olympic Qualifying Tournament match
The Chinese and the Koreans competed with each other for five long and tough sets on the fifth day of the FIVB Men's World Olympic Qualifying Tournament on June 7, Thursday that is being played in Tokyo, Japan.
The two teams met each other at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym with Korea coming out as the victor.
The first three sets of the match went close and remained tough throughout but the Koreans lost steam in the fourth frame and lost by quite a margin to Chinese. However, the loss managed to propel the Koreans into action as they put on a good performance
in the fifth set and secured the match at the following final set scores, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 14-25 and 15-13.
The Korean coach Park Ki Won, expressed his enthusiasm at the win in the following manner, “All our serves were great. Park Chul-Woo and Kim Yo-Han played really well. I think this is why we beat China. We didn't have a particular strategy or tactical plan
for our defense. I leave it up to the individual players to decide.”
On the other hand, the Chinese coach Zhou Jianan, took an optimistic approach while making the following comments, “My players have overcome so many difficulties to get to this point. So I am happy about that.”
The Korean player Park Chul-Woo was able to earn the credit of scoring the most points in the match by putting up 27 while team mate Kim Hak-Min added 19 of his own. The most active Chinese player was Chen Ping as he contributed 23 points to his side of
the score board.
The start of the first set went well for China as they took the lead at 5-4 but eventually Korea got the advantage at 20-19 after a few lead changes and was also able to secure the frame at 25-21. China was leading in the second set at 6-5 but Korea got
the advantage at 8-7. The frame went back and forth but China was able to equalise the match by bagging the set at 25-22. The Koreans secured the third frame with the Chinese storming in the fourth one but the final set rested with the Koreans after a tough
fight at 15-13.
The recent match has brought the tournament statistics of both the squads to a 2-3 figure. Next in line for the Chinese is a match with Venezuela while the Koreans will be moving ahead towards the Australians.
