Korea defeats China in Pool F match - 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
The Koreans were up against the Chinese in a Pool F match of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship on September 25. The match was part of the 1st to 8th round classifications of the tournament being played at Azadi Hall
No.1. After five long and gruelling sets the Koreans found themselves at the winning end.
Despite having lost the game, the Chinese put up an impressive effort that made it a tough job for the Koreans to scrap together a win at the following final set scores: 20-25, 36-34, 21-25, 25-20 and 18-16.
The Chinese came out strong in the first set of the game as the Koreans struggled to get into form that resulted in a one sided frame going to the Chinese. However, the Koreans stepped up their game in the second set and both teams were neck to neck through
a long and thrilling set that eventually was bagged by Korea. The Chinese were able to take the third one and the Koreans equalised the match with a fourth set win. The fifth set of the game was a tough battle but the Koreans proved to be the better of the
two sides.
The first set of the match started off with the Chinese taking the lead early on and leaving the Koreans behind that triggered a time out call from the Korean coach. At this point, the Chinese were leading 6-3. After the two teams came back onto the courts,
the Koreans stepped up their attack with the help of Kim Yo-Han but his individual effort was not enough to swing the game in favour of the Koreans. As a result, the Chinese were able to bag the opening set of the game at 25-20.
The Chinese started off the second set in a dominating fashion as well as they were soaring high because of the momentum generated at winning the previous set. But as the match progressed, the Koreans were able to close in the gap and make the match reach
a tie at 20-20. From then on, the Koreans did not back down and secured the second set at 36-34.
The third set of the match saw both teams working hard to gain dominance on the courts. However, the Chinese were able to adapt to the strong hitting style of Kim Yo-Han by improvising their defence. This led the Chinese gaining momentum and wining the third
set of the game at 25-21.
The Koreans were not ready to be swept by their Chinese counter parts and were able to take the match to a fifth set by winning the fourth one at 25-20. The fifth set was tied at 10-10 and eventually led to the Koreans snatching a win at 18-16.
