Korea earns first win in pool play of FIVB Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
A pool play match of the FIVB Women World Grand Prix saw the Koreans contest with the Chinese Taipei squad on June 17, 2012. The match between the two sides was being held in the Chinese city of Foshan. The competition went on for four sets and remained
close for the most part. However, it was the Korean side that was able to hand out a defeat to the Chinese Taipei by 3-1 and tally their first win in the tournament.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-21, 27-29, 25-20 and 25-20.
Both the teams came out strong in the first two sets of the game with the opening set going towards the Koreans while the second set being secured by the Chinese Taipei. The second set was fiercely contested by both the squads and seemed that the Chinese
Taipei lost their energy as they moved towards the third and the fourth sets of the game.
The coach of the Korean squad, Kim Hyung-Sil, expressed himself on the first win of his team by making the following comments, “Our players have many injuries. Today our captain Lee Sook-Ja had a small accident and had problems with her waist. So we are
very difficult to win this match. I hope in Japan we can play better.”
On the other hand, the captain of the Chinese Taipei squad, Yenmin Teng, shared his views by making the following comments, “We have not win one set in the recent 13 matches. Today we got one. We are short, we are young, but we are determined to win. Next
week in Kaohsiung we hope we can win a match or two.”
The opening set saw both the teams play on a level ground but the Chinese Taipei fell to making errors that gave the lead away to Korea by the coming of the first technical time out. After that point, Korea steadily moved towards a first set win at 25-21,
with the Chinese Taipei trailing behind all the way.
The loss of the first set enabled the Chinese Taipei to improve their performance in the second set and take the lead by the coming of the first technical time out at 8-3. Korea was not about to step back easily and they gave their rivals a tough challenge
throughout the frame. However, it was the Chinese Taipei squad that prevailed in securing the second set at 29-27.
Set three started off with a Korean lead at 12-7 and they were able to hold on to the advantage till the end of the frame at 25-20. The fourth set of the match followed much the same pattern as its predecessor and resulted in a Korean win at 25-20.
