Korea hands Chinese Taipei with another loss in Olympic Qualifiers – Volleyball news
Seems like Chinese Taipei women’s national volleyball team is totally out of luck in the 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament as the team lost its fifth consecutive match on Friday.
On day-5, Chinese Taipei received 0-3 (8-25, 12-25, 18-25) defeat from Korea. Tokyo Metropolitan Gym hosted the match and a crowd of 2,500 people showed up at the arena. Victory allowed South Korea to improve to 3-2 in the competition, while Chinese Taipei
constantly remained in the cold waters with 0-5 record.
No. 17 player of Korea Yang Hyo-Jin played an instrumental role in her team’s success. She made a total of 37 attempts and contributed match-high 16 points. She was followed by Han Song-Yi who ended up with 11 points in the match. On the other hand, none
of the C.T. players could go into double-figure score. Wen I Tzu was the top scorer with only 8 points.
Thailand started the match strong and added quick points on serve aces and successful attack attempts. Keying that effort was top-spiker of the team Kim Yeon-Koung. She supplied plenty of power to the ball and created much trouble for C.T. defence. Meanwhile,
Chinese Taipei committed serve errors and gave out more points to Korea.
Koreans played fast and did not waste any chance to score points. They locked Chinese Taipei to a low score of 8 in the opening frame and claimed set points in the 18th minute of the game. Korea secured first set 25-8 and went on front with 1-0 record.
Chinese Taipei trailed behind in the second set as well but improved its performance to some extent. The C.T. players committed fewer mistakes and struggled to prove their endeavour. However, Thailand controlled the operations of the game and captured second
set, 25-12.
Koreans faced no difficulty in the opening two sets and had the confidence to end the match in third set. Chinese Taipei was deep down in trouble after the loss of two sets but still tried to resist. Nonetheless, Korea proved to be too good for victory and
finished third set (25-18).
Mentor of Chinese Taipei Norimasa Sakakuchi said, “We lacked height. We were blocked and attacked. We have to strengthen our serve reception. Chen Wan Ting played well for us in the third set, but that was about it. We will learn from this kind of match.”
Likewise, the skipper of the CT squad Teng Yen Min had her say about the match. She stated, “Our service reception was not good. It is our weak point. The Korean team found this out and attacked it immediately. We will have to improve on this and fight in
the remaining games.”
