Korea makes into top four of women’s doubles event in German Open 2012
The Korean female duo Kyun Eun Jung- Ha Na Kim made their cut in top four after surviving the close contest with Japanese couple Misaki Matsutomo- Ayaka Takahashi in quarter-final in the German Open on March 2.
The Korean secured their berth in semi-final of the event by beating their rivals with final scores of 16-21, 25-23 and 21-11.
The duo of Kyun Eun Jung- Ha Na Kim will test their skills against World Number four Japanese pair Mizuki Fujji-Raeika Kakiiwa in the second semi-final of the event.
The epic quarter-final contest deserved to be called match of the day as it lasted for 1 hour and 22 minutes with both teams showcasing their prime craft.
In the beginning, the unseeded Japanese female couple Misaki Matsutomo- Ayaka Takahashi set the aggressive mood of the match by registering a swift lead of 1-0 on the board.
The Korean female pair was stunned with their abrupt and violent charge and lost the first match point with score board flashing the final margin of 16-21 in Japan’s favour.
The spectators were expecting an upset when Japanese duo Kyun Eun Jung- Ha Na Kim was inches away from the straight-set victory but Korea survived the battle in the end.
Both teams were feeling the heat and sweat hard to claim the second crucial match point. This cliff-hanger kept the spectators glued to their seats and they surely missed few heartbeats as both teams reached game point at seven times but could not wrap up
the show.
Finally, Korea managed to stay in the race after hitting the decisive game point and levelled the lead with nail-biting final figures of 25-23.
There was lot of firework expected in the third set but dramatically it turned into one-sided contest. Korean female shuttlers showed a strong character under pressure.
They blew away their opponent Japanese pair of Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi with notable margin of 21-11 on the board.
The real challenge awaits the Koreans in the semi-final where they are scheduled to lock horns with second seeds Mizuki Fujji-Raeika Kakiiwa of Japan, who are set to take revenge of their compatriots’ defeat.
