Korea sweeps Algeria in FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball update
The Korean national women’s volleyball team had a match with the Algerians on November 16, at the FIVB World Cup that is being staged in Japan. The Tokyo crowd saw a three back to back set wins as Korea dominated the Algerians.
The match was pretty much one sided as the Koreans were able to overcome their opponents easily. The first set did not see much effort from the Algerians and the Koreans secured a win by a comfortable margin. The second set saw the Algerians step up their
game but the effort was not enough to stop the Koreans from winning another set. The loss of the first two sets of the game did not do much to boast the morale of the Algerians and the Koreans were able to march on towards a victory at the following final
set scores: 25-17, 25-21 and 25-15.
The coach of the Algerian team, Ahmed Boukacem, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after his team had won the match in a sweep: “I felt today Algeria didn’t do well at all. They didn’t work well together
as a team and the players weren’t able to follow my instructions. We tried to catch up but I really think my players didn’t give it their all today.”
Kim Hyung-Sil, the losing team’s coach, shared his feelings in this way: “I’m happy about the win. It has given confidence to my players. I was worried about our setter whose play has not been so stable, but Kim Yeon-Koung was able to cover for that.”
The Koreans were able to play better than the Algerians in almost every aspect of the game. Both the attack and the defence of the Koreans was giving the Algerians a tough job in keeping up. Particularly, the Koreans managed to out block their opponents
by 5-3. Not only that, the number of points tallied by the Koreans on serves were nine whereas the points made by the Algerians on service aces were two only.
The player that was able to tally the most points among both the teams was Kim Yeon-Koung of Korea with a total of 16 points. Yeon-Koung was helped by her team mate Hwang Youn-Joo, who was able to make her presence felt by adding 14 points of her own. The
Algerian Faiza Tsabet led her side by putting up a total of 15 points for her team.
