Korea sweeps Kenya in FIVB Women’s World Cup match - Volleyball news
An FIVB Women’s World Cup match took place between Korea and Kenya on Wednesday, November 9th, Wednesday in Japan. Toyama City Gymnasium saw Korea able to end up on the winning side by making a clean sweep over their opponents.
The first set of the match was the only one in which the Kenyans put up a fight and stayed close until the very end but the Koreans succeeded in scoring the last couple of points and bagging the opening set of the game. The loss of the first set decreased
the performance of the Kenyans and the Koreans were able to stay in control all through and secure themselves another win but this time by a significant margin. The third set followed the same pattern as the second set and the Koreans sealed the deal on it,
winning the match at the following final set scores: 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14
The coach of the Korean team Kim Hyung-Sil, made the following comments at the press conference after the match reached its close: “I’m very happy to have won today after four losses. It’s a valuable victory. We’ve had a lack of preparation for this tournament
but now the players have a bit more confidence and I’d like maintain this form.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Kenyan team Paul Bitok, expressed himself in the following manner: “After playing well against some of the big teams, today I’m a bit disappointed because we expected to win against Korea or at least pick up two sets.
We made many mistakes and Korea served well and we couldn’t receive. We didn’t serve so well today although some individual players did well.”
The first set of the match remained close for the most part with both the teams almost neck to neck with each other. The score remained close at 14-13, with the Koreans in the lead. However, the set eventually ended in a Korean victory at 25-21.
The second set saw the Koreans take the lead early on and extend their advantage to 12-4. After that point, the Kenyans could not stop the forward march of the Koreans as they secured themselves another set of the game at 25-15.
The third set reached a tie at 7-7 but soon the Koreans took dominance and bagged the final set at 25-14.
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match was Korea’s Kim Yeon-Koung with a total of 14 points. The players that remained the most active on the Kenyan side were Everlyne Makuto and Moim Mercy, each of whom scored 11 points each.
