Korea sweeps Sri Lanka in Pool F match of 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
The Koreans were able to hand out a defeat to the Sri Lankans in a Pool F match of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship on September 26. The match was part of the 1-8 classification round of the tournament that is being hosted in Tehran, Iran,
in Azadi Hall No.1.
The first two sets of the match were completely dominated by the Koreans as the Sri Lankans tried to get their footing. However, the loss of the first two games triggered the Sri Lankans into action and they were able to put up a tremendous fight in the
third. However, the effort came in too late and the Koreans prevailed in securing a win at the following final set scores: 25-13, 25-13 and 33-31.
The Koreans were able to out play the Sri Lankans in almost all aspects of the match including the attack and the defence, which did an impressive job to keep the pressure on the Sri Lankans and keep them at bay. Not only were the Koreans strong in the attacking
and defence departments, they did a good job in the serving area as well and that gave the Sri Lankan receivers a hard time.
The opening set of the game started off with the Koreans coming out strong and taking the lead with forceful kills. The Sri Lankans could not step up their game to match the play of the Koreans and gradually fell behind as Korea was able to stretch the gap.
The Koreans were unstoppable as they marched on towards a first set win at 25-13.
The second set of the match saw the Sri Lankans step up a bit and play level with the Koreans. As the set reached its middle stages, the Koreans were able to move up ahead with a lead of 13-9. The Sri Lankans tried hard to catch up but the Korean play was
stronger than theirs which enabled Korea to ease towards another win at 25-13.
The third set of the match triggered the Sri Lankans to give a more positive response and they struggled till the end to avoid a clean sweep. However, the Koreans were flying high on the momentum generated from the wins and took the set at 33-31.
The recent win for the Koreans have enabled them to earn the second place in the Pool F of the championship while the Sri Lankans will be matched next with the Japanese in the quarter-final round.
