Korean GP: Red Bull’s worst weekend of 2010 F1 season
Red Bull have been very fast and furious all through the season; all through the season the team has proved to have the fastest cars and the best drivers of the 2010 Formula One season. However, after having embraced a lot of luck
and high spirits all through the season finally the Austrian team got a hard blow of ill-fate at a very crucial time of the year.
The 17th race of the season, the Korean Garand Prix unfolded amidst a lot of thrill and fervour last Sunday. The entire Formula One squad gathered for another very awe-inspiring and nerve tickling round of the season
at the newly built Korean International track. Just like the entire season this round also brings forth a lot of surprise and unexpected results - above all stood the pointless finish of the most dominating team of the season, Red Bull Racing. Both the team
drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel had a poor weekend as they both had to leave the track without having earned any points at all for the team.
The weekend started off very well for the Austrian team. The drivers were quick to get acquainted with the strange turns and twists of the new track, while the car also responded well on the freshly laid asphalt of the track. All
the practice sessions saw the two drivers do brilliantly well, demonstrating great pace on the track. Moreover, the qualifying session saw especially glad and jubilant faces as everybody cheered and hugged in the team garages of Red Bull. The team driver,
Vettel secured the pole position after the qualifying while Webber was successful in securing second place on the grid.
However, the two men entered the track with a great deal of confidence and in high spirits, yet they left it in much despair and disappointment. The previous charts’ leader, Mark Webber started off fine but was not able to keep
a good control of his RB6 on the wet slippery track. The surface was already very slippery as the tarmac layer had been freshly laid and it still had oil on it while things were further made worse by the heavy rainfall on Sunday morning that turned the arena
into the slipperiest track of the calendar.
Just like many of the other drivers, Webber also kept spinning and slipping time and again. Finally, at the 18th lap Webber slipped on the track, went far wide off and during his stunt he took the Mercedes GP driver,
Nico Rosberg along with him as well. It was the worst of Webber’s nightmare coming to life as he had prepared very hard all through the week for a podium finish, but got his race finished in a very silly manner. This finish dropped the driver to second place
from his original 1st position. Currently, he stands at second place while his prior follower, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has taken the lead on the chart.
On the other hand, Sebastian Vettel who drove brilliantly through the virgin track of Korea was also struck by bad luck at the 45th lap of the race. The German driver was fast right from the start of the race; after
having started from the pole position he was successfully able to keep the rally of the cars behind him. However, at the 45th lap Vettel was observed to be slowing down - soon his follower Alonso overtook him, soon after, Hamilton crossed by him
as well and then the Red Bull driver stopped, announcing an engine problem with his RB6.
With this poor finish the driver has descended down to 4th
place from his initial 3rd and currently has 206 points under his belt.
