Korean Grand Prix chief Yung Cho Chung will challenge decision of dismissal from his post
The Korean Grand Prix became a part of the sport recently this year and it seems that the track and race was pretty good, however, the outcome was not as good as was expected. The Korean Grand Prix will take place once again in 2011 but since the Korean
Grand Prix chief Yung Cho Chung has been dismissed, the organizers might have to go through a tough time organizing the race this year.
Yung recently stated that he is preparing to challenge the decision to dismiss him from his post. He received the FIA’s prize for the best promoter of 2010 but Chung was accused of lax management during the official meetings of the organizers of the Korean
Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) recently.
The contract with South Korea’s race contact will extend for at least 6 more years and many believe that it was mainly because of the fact that Chung and FIA’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone had a strong relationship.
According to some reports, Chung is preparing to sue KAVO and a source close to him confirmed this.
“He said he couldn't accept the decision because there was something wrong in the procedure. He is now in discussion with his advisers as how to file a lawsuit,” KAVO spokesman Jung Ji-hyun confirmed.
Chung was accused of mishandling the expenditures and going over budget as well. Other than that, the delay in construction of the circuit was also considered as a major cause for his dismissal.
The Korean Track was prepared completely almost a month before the race was expected to take place. However, the Korean race is expected to take place until the next 6 years including this year (2011).
With due time, the turnout will also increase and it will become more than just a Formula 1 race and become more of a festival, similar to the one’s that take place in Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
Other than the Korean Grand Prix, an Indian Grand Prix is expected to take place in 2011 and it would definitely be quite a sight. It is expected that there will be sort of a “festival” with different events besides the usual Indian Grand Prix and up until
now, it seems that the organizers are going to have to go through a tough time to pull it off keeping in mind they don’t have much time left for preparing this event.
In the end, it seems that it will be a typical Formula 1 race rather than something even bigger. Most of the Formula 1 spectators expect a grand event rather than just a race weekend. As a result, Bernie Ecclestone and Tavo Helmund came up with the idea
of holding a US grand prix but this time, the race will take place in Austin, Texas on a newly built track rather than the usual Indianapolis track. The race is expected to take place in 2012 and according to Bernie and Tavo, it is going to be a major event
rather than just a race, which is the spectators' requirement.
However, the Korean Grand Prix is expected to be one of the most competitive and entertaining races of the 2011 Formula 1 season with a much better turnout this year hopefully.
