I'm studying korean and I want to know what the double letters sound like: ㅃ, ㅆ, ㅉ, ㄸ, etc. Do they have to have the sound ssang in the beginning? Like literally say "ssang- _____" when you say the letter/word?

  1. it means the same as just a single.. one accept when it is a double you just put more umph behind it when u say the letter...

  2. I'm not sure really.

There's a language exchange program I'm a part of that specializes in Korean and other Asian languages, if you can't find your answer here then try there. It's invite only but it has a guest page that should help you.

I'd also be glad to invite you if you are interested.

  3. ㅃ sounds like a lighter 'b/p' like a 'pp or bb'.

    ㅆ sounds like a 'sh'

    ㅉ sounds like a 'jj' a lighter 'j'

    ㄸ sounds like a lighter 'd' (dd)

When you say the letter you say ssang-_____. When you say the word you don't say that.
