Korean Women defeat New Zealand by 4-3
After a splendid show, the Korean women edged past New Zealand by 4-3 in the final warm-up game ahead of the Champion Trophy scheduled to be contested from June 25 to July 03, 2011 in Amsterdam, Holland. The final competition comprised of three sets
of play with each having 20 minutes.
It is worth mentioning here that the women’s hockey team of New Zealand lost the second consecutive practice match which is a great point of concern for coach and other officials. In the previous match, the Netherlands took them down by 3-0. However,
the coach did use all the experienced players and youngsters in the form of rotation in the tune-up contest that was filled with lot of thrills and enchantment.
Both the women’s hockey teams of Korea and New Zealand set off the match in quite a proficient way and swapped impressive passes in the early minutes of the first half. It was the Korean striker that opened the scoring through a field effort. However,
the defenders from New Zealand further tightened their game and denied a number of strikes.
On the other side, the striking women of New Zealand also paced up their struggle to get the equalising goal of the game. After dribbling a couple of midfielders, Stacey Michelsen managed to move the ball into the defensive circle of Korea and hit
an unswerving shot into the cage and levelled the results at 1-1. In the later minutes, the Black Sticks earned a short-corner and tested Katie Glynn. She did not dishearten her team and powered an impressive drag flick into the goal, taking one goal lead
in the game. The first period concluded with the Blacks Sticks Women holding top position at 2-1.
The second third commenced with the same intensity and the New Zealand women continued their control over the opponent side. Similar to the first period, the Korean team obtained a goal in the early minutes and decreased the lead down to a single score.
In a counter-offence, Cathryn Finlayson received a classic pass from Krystal Forgesson and tapped it into the Korean goal-post, regaining the one-goal edge, 3-2. With five minutes left onto the clock, the Black Sticks women earned a short-corner, but
it was ruled out from opposite team.
In the last third, the Black Sticks downed into the field with a changed set up. The trainer made changes and provided youngsters a chance to prove their worth into the game. The Korean strikers showed improved performance and notched a couple of goals
while holding Black Sticks goal-less throughout the 20 minutes. With one goal supremacy, the Koreans rode away the field at 4-3.
