Korean coach joins Malaysia’s national squad to improve skills of Doubles shuttlers

Korea’s Yoo Yong Sung, who has been hired by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as Doubles coach, joined the national squad of Malaysia yesterday, at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara, Malaysia.
The Korean coach has been hired to enhance the skills of shuttlers in the Doubles category and to boost their confidence. He attended the training session at Juara Stadium yesterday to get acquaintance with the players and coaches in the national squad.
At the moment, the condition of the Men’s Doubles is getting down as the top seeds in the country and World Number Five, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong are passing through the worst bad patch of their career.
Yoo Yong will assist the Malaysian coach, Pang Cheh Chang to put the top seeds on the right track as there is not much time left in 2012 Olympic Games.
The Korean coach wasted no time in starting his job after reaching in Malaysia as he asked for the video footage of Koo Kien and Tan Boon to examine the shortcomings in their play. The coach has never worked with them before and needs to watch their movement
and coordination in the court.
Yoo Yong does not speak English as he took the help of a translator to talk with shuttlers in the Juara Stadium yesterday.
He said, “I’ve heard of Kien Keat-Boon Heong but I have yet to really see them play. I have requested videos of them in action so that I can see for myself how bad they actually are.”
He further added, “The target is to achieve glory in the Olympics ... it will not be easy as the Korean and Chinese pairs have reached new heights. But I believe Kien Keat-Boon Heong have the potential to reach that level as well.”
Tan Kim Her, the Doubles chief coach asked BAM to hire Yoo Yong for improving the skills of the Malaysian shuttlers. The Korean will work for six months on probationary and if performs well, he will have a two year contract with the governing body.
Yoo Yong has been training Korea’s top Doubles play, Lee Yong Dae and is expected to improve the standard of Malaysian players to that level.
