Korean female duo of Ha Hung Eun-Kim Min Jung suffers first round exit in German Open
The top seeded female Korean duo Ha Jung Eun-Kim Min Jung had a qualifying round bye in the German Open but they had to say goodbye to the event in first round yesterday.
The World Number three Korean pair lost to un-seeded female duo Shinta Mulia Sari- Lei Yao of Singapore in very first encounter of the event.
The Singaporeans sealed the victory after sweating for more than one hour but they stole the limelight by placing the final results of 17-21, 21-14 and 21-18 in their favour.
The duo of Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao is currently ranked 12 in women’s doubles world rankings but their gutsy performance is mark of how far they going to go in their run for glory.
The Singaporeans had lost the previous four encounters with the Korean rivals and it seemed that this fifth one is also going to slip from their hands when they went down in the first set of match.
The Korean pair Ha Jung Eun-Kim Min Jung registered its swift lead by nailing their opponents with 21-17 score position at end of the first set. They pushed the Singaporeans at back foot by clinching the first match point.
However, counter attack from the Singaporean girls was so strong that the Korean expedition stopped right there. They prevented the match from being a dead contest and brought life back by levelling the lead.
The Singapore’s female pair Shinta Mulia- Lei Yao bagged the second match point by ticking a decisive score of 21-14 on the board. They did not allow their rivals to catch them on the scorecard and the Koreans could not control pace of the rallies.
The top seeded Korean pair Ha Jung Eun-Kim Min Jung unleashed their prime badminton skills in final set to avoid the first round exit in the event but they could not stop the Singaporeans from stealing the show.
The duo of Shinta Mulia-Lei Yao concluded the show by registering the final score of 21-18 on the board and secured its berth in the second round of the event.
The Singaporean couple will face Sandra Marinello-Birgit Michels of Germany in the pre quarter-final round of the German Open today.
