Question:

Korean food preperation??

Is it jsut my in-laws or is it a korean thing.

They kind don;t believe in sanitary food prep.

For instance they will leave a pot of bone soup on the stove, re heating it every day, and eat it for a week or 2.

Or - my MIL thawed out some squid on Sunday, it is now Tuesday and it is still on the counter! I am assuming to be cooked and eaten tonight.

Also - she always tries to feed my baby a bottle that has been out of the fridge for several hours! And she fed her bone soup the other day while I was away, bone soup that has been on the stove for at least 5 days.

What the heck is this?

  1. Sounds like a personal problem, you should address this with them not Y&A answers.

  2. I think its an in-laws thing. They do stuff like this purposely to drive you insane.

  3. perhaps you can speak with them because there is alot of contamination that is happening and it's not only dangerous for the adults but incredibly dangerous for your young child whose immune system is not fully equipped to deal with advance bacteria and such.  address that issue as soon as possible!

  4. My wife was Korean. It is a Korean thing. She'd heat the stuff up to a boil twice a day or so, whether she ate it or not. It's fine. I never got sick or anything. They wash dishes in cold water, too. I think it's a little strange, but, hey.

  5. It seems more of an INDIVIDUAL thing, rather than a "race" or "ethnic" related thing.

My Korean (ex) family and friends have all been rather on the super clean and neat freak side - and when it comes to food, everything is done to exacting standards, from storage to preparation to presentation.

  6. my mom's from the Philippines and she's the same way.  they have fridges there but it's too hot  there for the fridges to stay cold.  my mom jus says she never got sick when she was little.  and if they heat the food hot enough the germs should be killed.

things like this make me crazy.  address it with you mother in law.  your baby could get so ill = (
