Korean shuttlers make clean sweep in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold
Korean shuttlers have proved their supremacy as they have won the titles in all categories of the game in the home event of 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, which ended on Sunday, December 11, in Korea. This wonderful result came on the right time as all
Korean shuttlers are struggling hard to find a better position in the draw of 2012 London Olympics.
In the absence of the top shuttlers from China, the Koreans grabbed the chance and stamped their superiority of all other nations to win glory. Korean shuttlers have been impressive throughout the tournament and cheered the crowd by putting up superb show
of top class badminton. The precious ranking points in the Korea Open will help them in getting a higher position in the world standings in their respective categories.
The final of Men’s Doubles was the opening battle of the day, where both Korean pairs were facing each other. The World Number Four pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong played to their full potential and overpowered their higher raked country-mates and
World Number Two shuttlers, Sung Jae Jung and Lee Yong Dae, who were the top seeds in the men’s Doubles draw of the tournament. Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong won the battle in straight sets with a 21-15 and 24-22 score on the board.
The nest match was Women’s Singles final, where Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun emerged as the winner by beating Li Han, who is an emerging shuttler of China. The World Number 12 Korean showed no respect to the Chinese shuttler by playing at her best speed and finished
the match in straight games. The final score of this straight-set final contest was 21-18 and 21-16.
In the final of Women’s Doubles, Korea’s Hye Won Eom and Ye Na Jang proved their superior skills against Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao of Singapore. The Koreans played remarkable badminton and showed no mercy to their Singaporean pair, who played well but
not enough to escape from a straight-set defeat. The Koreans finished up the title match in two games and cheered the crowd by winning their first title in the Korea Open GP Gold.
The crowd was waiting anxiously for the following fight which was the final of Men’s Singles. Korea’s Lee Hyun Il was taking on his compatriot Shon Wan Ho for the title. He is currently World Number 11 at the moment and has been playing remarkable badminton
for the last couple of months. He also won the title in last week’s Macau Open Grand Prix Gold.
In the final match, Lee Hyun put up strong show of his elevated skills against his lower ranked compatriot and emerged as the winner in two games. Wan ho failed to win even a single game against his higher ranked team-mate. Lee Hyun ended the game without
any considerable fight with a 21-18 and 21-16.
The last match of the ending day was Mixed Doubles, where both Korean couples faced each other for winning the title. Yoo Yeon Seong and Ye Na Jang were facing Ki Jung Kim and Kyung Eun Jung in the title match.
The un-seeded shuttler, Yeon Seong and Ye Na stunned the higher ranked Kyung Eun and Ki Jung, who were the seventh seeds in the championship. The lower ranked Koreans showed no respect to their senior team-mates and won the match with a margin of 21-17 and
21-19.
